Nippon Steel Corporation Kyushu Works (Yawata Area)

Discover the Power of Industry Driving a Sustainable Future

The Nippon Steel Kyushu Works (Yawata Area) stands at the heart of Kitakyushu’s industrial heritage and transformation. Established in 1901 as the government-operated Yawata Steel Works, it played a pivotal role in Japan’s modernization and industrial development. In recent years, its role as a supply base for high-grade steel sheets to automobile factories in the Kyushu region and as an export hub to nearby Asian markets has grown significantly.

You can tour the blast furnace factory where iron ore is melted to produce iron, and the hot rolling mill where red-hot steel is rolled thin to create products, experiencing firsthand the core industries that underpinned Japan's modernization.
