2. Kanmon Kaikyo Museum

An interactive museum exploring the grand story of the Kanmon Straits

The highlight is the three-story-high “Kaikyo Atrium,” featuring an original 8-minute drama on a massive 9m × 18m screen, shown every 30 minutes in two versions—history and marine life. Don’t miss the third-floor “Strait History Corridor,” where the past of the Kanmon Straits is vividly retold through intricate doll art.

Wakamatsu South Seaside Street is lined with vintage Western-style buildings still in active use. The photogenic “Ueno Building,” built in 1913 as the Mitsubishi Partnership's Wakamatsu branch, now houses cafés and shops (call in advance for large group visits). A short walk away stands the 1919 Former Furukawa Mining Building, with its distinctive red brick and rooftop tower.
