Discover the Perfect Blend of Nature and Wildlife

Located in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Itozu-no-mori Zoological Park is a unique zoological park where visitors can enjoy wildlife surrounded by lush greenery. Rather than simply displaying animals, the park is designed to help visitors observe animals in environments inspired by their natural habitats while experiencing the beauty of nature throughout the year.

The park aims to serve as a bridge between people and nature, offering opportunities to learn about animals, the environment, and the importance of living alongside other forms of life.

Meet a Wide Variety of Animals

Itozu-no-mori Zoological Park is home to about 80 species and 470 individual animals, including elephants, giraffes, lions, Amur tigers, chimpanzees, red pandas, and many other animals from around the world.

One of the park’s attractions is its variety of animal encounters. At the interactive animal area, visitors can get close to familiar small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs. Depending on the day, visitors can also enjoy activities such as feeding goats and elephants or experiencing a donkey ride.

Animal Habitats Inspired by Nature

The park places particular emphasis on creating spaces that reflect the animals’ natural habitats. In the “Grassland World,” the environment of the African savanna is recreated, allowing visitors to see lions and herbivores together from different viewpoints.

Other areas recreate forest and jungle environments, providing opportunities to observe animals from different perspectives. These carefully designed viewing routes allow visitors to see more natural behaviors and movements.

A Tranquil Escape Amid Seasonal Beauty

Itozu-no-mori Zoological Park is also surrounded by greenery and seasonal flowers. Cherry blossoms brighten the park in spring, while hydrangeas add color in early summer. Autumn brings beautiful foliage, including the changing colors of Japanese maple trees.

Walking through the wooded areas of the park allows visitors to enjoy both wildlife and the changing scenery of the seasons.

A Park Where People and Nature Connect

Itozu-no-mori Zoological Park has a history rooted in the local community. Its predecessor, Itozu Amusement Park, opened in 1932. After the amusement park closed in 2000, strong requests from local residents led to its preservation and redevelopment, and Itozu-no-mori Zoological Park opened in 2002.

Today, the park continues to develop as a place where visitors can enjoy animals while learning about nature, biodiversity, and the importance of protecting life and the environment. Its current vision is to be a park that connects irreplaceable nature and life to future generations.
