■ What is Kazashi-yama? A Scenic Mountain in Kitakyushu

Located in Moji Ward, Kitakyushu, Kazashi-yama (Mount Kazashi) is a 362-meter-high mountain offering spectacular views of the Kanmon Strait, Moji, and the surrounding seas.

The mountain is part of the Kiku Mountain Range and is a popular low-mountain hiking destination close to Mojiko. From the summit area, visitors can enjoy impressive views of the Kanmon Strait, Shimonoseki, the Genkai-nada Sea, and the Suōnada Sea.

The name Kazashi is believed to come from the shape of the mountain’s three peaks, which resemble flowers inserted into a traditional hair ornament or crown. In older times, the mountain was called “Kazashi-no-yama,” written as 挿頭花ノ山.

One of the highlights of Kazashi-yama is its seasonal beauty. Cherry blossoms can be enjoyed in spring, while the Momiji Valley is known as a scenic spot for autumn foliage. The mountain also offers beautiful sunset and night views from its viewpoints.
