Surrounded by tall dawn redwoods, or metasequoias, the facility features distinctive red-brick and white buildings reminiscent of Southern France, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere.

More than just a place to stop and shop, Metase no Mori offers visitors a chance to enjoy local produce, open green spaces, and a glimpse into the character of Chikujō.

Discover the Heart of Chikujō

At the heart of Metase no Mori is its local produce market, where freshly harvested vegetables and fruits from the surrounding area are displayed alongside rice, seafood, prepared foods, and locally made processed products.

One of the highlights is the renowned Toyomitsuhime fig, a Fukuoka-developed variety known for its high sweetness, abundant juice, and smooth texture. It is one of the local specialties available at Metase no Mori.

Visitors can also discover kikuimo, or Jerusalem artichoke, a local specialty available both as fresh produce and in processed products such as chips and powder. The ingredient is known for its distinctive flavor and has also attracted attention for its potential functional properties.

The center's location next to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Tsuiki Air Base adds another distinctive feature. Visitors can find JASDF-related goods, while the popular Base Dining Hall Curry is available as a retort-packaged product that can be purchased to take home.

The grounds are also ideal for a leisurely break. Visitors can stroll along the Metasequoia-lined promenade, relax in the spacious lawn area, or let children enjoy the large playground. The lawn park also features an F-4EJ Kai fighter aircraft, nicknamed “Phantom,” giving the site an unexpected aviation attraction alongside its natural surroundings.
