A Stunning Landscape of 1,000 Plum Trees

Nestled on the slopes of Mt. Tsukuba, the Mt. Tsukuba Plum Grove covers 4.5 hectares and is home to approximately 1,000 red and white plum trees. The blossoms typically bloom from February to March, with some early-blooming varieties coming into flower as early as late January. Their delicate fragrance fills the grove, creating a beautiful landscape that heralds the arrival of spring.

The plum trees are interspersed with large Tsukuba stones, a type of gabbro characteristic of the area. The contrast between the red and white blossoms and the dark natural stones gives the grove a distinctive landscape unlike an ordinary plum garden.

At the upper part of the grove, the Observatory Arbor offers sweeping views over the entire plum grove, the rural landscape at the foot of Mt. Tsukuba, and the streetscape of the Tsukuba Science City. On clear days, visitors may also be able to see Mt. Fuji and Tokyo Skytree in the distance.
