Hesaki Lighthouse – A Journey to Light and History

Perched on a hill overlooking the Suo Sea in Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City, the Hesaki Lighthouse stands as a symbol of history and maritime safety. Built as one of five lighthouses promised in a treaty between the Japanese shogunate and British envoys in 1867, it first lit the sea in 1872. Its elegant white granite structure and imported French rotating lens have captivated visitors for over 150 years.
