Wakachiku Museum : Unlocking the Memories of Dokai Bay, a Journey of Corporate Museums

A Journey into Meiji-era Development

Wakachiku Museum, located in Hama-cho, Wakamatsu-ku, Kitakyushu City, is a corporate museum that tells the history of Wakachiku Construction, which was established in 1890. Through a wealth of materials such as photographs, videos, models, and drawings, visitors can trace the development of ports and industries that were promoted around Dokai Bay.

A Century of Coastal Industry in Pictures and Models

The museum exhibits records of coal transportation, a diorama of Dokai Bay, and surveying instruments, allowing visitors to experience the lifestyle of the people and the skills of the craftsmen of that time.

Industrial Heritage and Environmental Renewal

Dokai Bay once led the development of Kitakyushu as a coal loading port, but in the process of modernization, it also faced the problem of environmental pollution. It is a valuable experience to reconfirm this history and learn the background of Kitakyushu's transformation into a city of environmental improvement through this museum.
