Muhomatsu Sake Brewery in Kokura : Bold Flavors from Over a Century Experience

Over a Century-Old Brewery Rooted at the Foot of Hiraodai

Nestled below the limestone plateau of Hiraodai in Kokura Minami Ward, Kitakyushu, Muhomatsu Shuzo was founded in 1877. For over 140 years, it has crafted small-batch sake andshōchū that are deeply cherished by the local community.

Local Ingredients & Traditional Techniques

The clear spring water from Hiraodai and carefully selected sake rice are used. Using low-temperature fermentation and traditional sake brewing methods, they offer a wide range of products, from crisp junmai sake to aromatic ginjo sake, and barley shochu with a robust flavor.

A diverse lineup of sake that highlights local ingredients

The representative brand “Muhomatsu” junmai ginjo is popular for its mellow flavor. The sweet potato and barley shochu “Kujaku-oh” is also attractive for its powerful aroma. Sake made with local ingredients, such as “Mitake Umebairin,” which is made with fruits from the farm, is also a hot topic. Available for purchase in the store, it is perfect for everyday dining or as a souvenir.

A base for sake culture in Kitakyushu, where you can feel the ties with the local community.

The brewery has a parking lot and is easily accessible, about a 5-minute walk from JR Ishihara-cho Station. Muhosho Sake Brewery, which selects its ingredients in the spirit of local production for local consumption, is attracting attention as a brewery that is open to tourists. We invite you to taste the world of “Muho Matsu” with a local flavor in your hand.
